Knitwear Care

Wash

Less is more when it comes to washing knitwear. Over-washing can weaken delicate fibres, distort shape and cause pilling. Wash only when needed and in-between, let it air out or spot clean. We recommend the occasional dry clean to keep your knit in it's original shape and fit.

At home, cotton cashmere can be washed on a delicate cycle. For wool fabrics, hand wash is best. Use a mild detergent or a wool specific detergent.

Dry

Lay your knit lengthways on a clean towel. Gently roll it up and apply pressure to absorb any excess water. Unroll, and leave the knit to dry on a clean dry towel or a drying rack in a shaded area, away from direct sunlight.

Store

Knitwear should always be folded, not hung. This helps the knit to hold shape and avoid stretching.

When storing your knitwear for longer periods of times, such as summer months, ensure that it is freshly cleaned without hair, dirt, oil or sweat, as this can attract moths. To further avoid moths, we like to use natural moth repellants such as cedarwood blocks or lavender filled sachets in our wardrobes.

Iron

Ironing delicate fabrics is something that should be done with a lot of care. When ironing knitwear, we recommend using the lowest temperature on your iron. Hot temperatures can tamper with the texture of the fabric making it feel scratchy and less soft on the skin.

Pilling and de-pilling

What is pilling?
There is no relationship between pilling and the quality of yarn used. Pilling is the natural tendency of loose fibres to travel to the surface of the fabric. Here, they are susceptible to friction, which causes the fibres to twist and form small balls.

How do you take care of pilling?
For garments we think are vulnerable to pilling, we include a small complimentary cashmere comb in your order. It can be used to minimise and gently remove pilling in moderation. If you do not have a cashmere comb, a pumice stone is also effective.

When using the cashmere comb or pumice stone, lie your knit on a flat surface and test on a small area first. Gently brush the pills away with the comb.

Try to minimise rubbing or friction when wearing your knitwear. Be mindful of cross body bags with straps that rub against knits, as this can cause pilling.
